Mushrooms at base of tree

Question

Fungus at base of tree
We have an elm tree, I think it's a chinese elm which is about 10 years old.  Last year, a storm caused one of the large branches to break.  A tree service was able to remove the limb and there's even new growth coming out of the place where the branch broke off. The tree looks healthy, but today I noticed what looks like some type of funnel-shaped mushrooms or fungus around the base of the tree.  The tree service told us to watch for mushrooms as that could indicate a problem, so I'm concerned this could be a warning sign. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Jennie:
Not sure of the size of these, but if they are about 1/4 inch in diameter and look like these funnels have 3-5 black colored "eggs" inside the cup, then this is the Birds Nest fungus- a harmless fungus that grows on the mulch.  Use "Google Images" on your computer and search for images of the Birds nest fungus.  These are cool, but harmless to the tree!
