Careers in Organic Gardening

Question
Hi, I am a new organic gardener and I love it already.  My grandfather has been an organic gardener for many years now.  He is the one teaching me.  Right now, I am trying to figure out what profession will make me happy and pay well for the future.  I was wondering if you know of any good careers in organic gardening.  Also, any good tips for a beginning gardener would be great.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Dear Rachel:

Congratulations on becoming a student of organic gardening and you are very fortunate to have your grandfather as your teacher!  Since the AllExperts service caters to the Internet and since you don't mention your home location, I'm going to assume you're in the USA.  As it relates to what career to follow, I would suggest that you contact your local county extension agent usually located in medium to larger cities or in the county seat city nearest your home.  Ask the agent if they have a Master Gardener Training course in your area.  This is a an excellent course beginning for any serious gardener and provides a wealth of information.

In addition, I recommend you check out Organic Gardening at the Internet site listed below:

I also suggest that you discuss gardening and related careers with the county extension agent.  The extension service should have referral and general information on agriculture careers related to gardening, home economics, forestry, and general agriculture.  Perhaps you would enjoy becoming a part of the county extension service in a nearby county  or some other part of the country.

Wishing you well in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Mack Jean
