poison ivy

Question
A friend put mulch in her flower beds around her house, now each time she works with her flowers she gets poison ivy rash. I'm afraid her mulch is contaminated. Short of removing the mulch, is there anything she can apply to neutralize the oil and make the mulch contaminate free?

Thanks,
Marie

Answer
nothing i know of to put on the mulch. maybe granular turf lime. it would raise the pH of the mulch and make it less acidic.
there are products on the market that you can apply to your skin to lessen the effct of poison ivy. find it at a local drug store. check w/local garden centers/nurseries more familiar w/poisonous plants growing in your area.  they should be able to recommend a few ideas to help you.
