Yard Grading/Fallen slab

Question
Charles,
We recently purchased a home that has severe grading issues.  In removing an old deck, we found that the entire slab underneath has fallen around 6 to 10" toward the house.  Digging into the "soil" of the yard it appears that the house was built on backfill.  My question is this: can I add fill dirt on top of the slab to rebuild the grading, or do I have to jackhammer the slab out before adding dirt and regarding the yard to prevent water damage.  Thank you in advance for your advice.

Answer
Hello Dan,
Definitely out of my area of expertise.
This sound to me like a serious issue, and is a job for a house inspector.  Did he find anything wrong with the foundation of the house when the house was inspected?  I would get the condition and integrity of the foundation checked.  Sorry I could not be of more help
