Replacing Rainbird E-9 Transformer

Question
Hi Tony,

Thanks for the answer.I am following up on an earlier question asked on 10-Jun about the Rainbird Controller. You had replied:

"If there's no power at the 24VAC terminals on the controller, check the 110V outlet the transformer is plugged into.  If there's power there but no power at the controller, it could be a bad transformer."

So I went ahead and bought a new sprinkler transformer to check the same. However while trying to install the new transformer, I noticed that there are two wires, whereas the E-9 transformer seems to have three wires connected to the controller(two colors only). Little confused as to how to connect the transformer?

Thanks for your service!!

Answer
Hi Thomas

The transformer should have 2 line wires and 1 ground.  Typically the ground wire is green and is tied into the GND terminal on the controller.  The other two need to be installed on the adjacent 24VAC terminals.

I'd be sure to have the right transformer for the controller.

Tony
