I read your reply from 2007 on growing a pumpkin plant in a pot. I too have just started my plant on the back porch. Can I not allow the vine to grow over the concrete onto the grass? Or do I need to grow it another way?

Allowing the vine to grow as it pleases shouldn't be a problem for the plant, but they do get quite expansive, so it would be a good idea to head it a direction that won't be in your way.
