Question
I have received an unopened bird of paradise cut flower and I know from
personal experience that when I bought one in Mexico they opened the flower
head manually but I'm unsure how to do this or if it will open by itself without
my intervention.  any advice?

Bird of Paradise typically need to be opened by hand - place them under a bit of water and gently start to pry/massage open the "beak."  I've had Birds open by themselves and I've also had them remain closed - the rate of them dying remained the same.  Thank You for your question!  :-)
