Lavender – Dying in Pot

Q: We have been enjoying our potted lavender plant, but now it seems to be dying from the bottom up. We find no apparent cause! Can you please give us some suggestions after looking at the three attached pictures?

A: It seems to be a problem with the roots…most likely too much water. It looks like you’re using a typical potting soil, which might be better for indoor plants than those outdoors. Since lavender likes to have fast-draining soil around the roots, I recommend you get fresh potting soil and mix it 1:1 with perlite then repot the lavender.

A bigger container wouldn’t hurt also.
