Penstemon Garnet

(Penstemon 'Garnet') PEN-steh-mon Synonyms:  P. 'Andenken an Friedrich Hahn' Genus:  Penstemon This plant is a bushy, vigorous perennial with smooth, narrow, dark green leaves and small, tubular, deep wine-red flowers borne in erect spikes, from early summer to late autumn. Noteworthy Characteristics:  Attracts bees and hummingbirds. Care:  Easy to grow in well-drained soil and sun. Deadheading may prolong flowering. Propagation:  Take softwood cuttings in early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in mid-summer. Divide in spring. Problems:  Powdery mildew, rust, leaf spots, and Southern blight. Slugs and snails may damage young plants.
