Borago officinalis

Borage (Borago officinalis) bor-AY-go oh-fi-shi-NAH-lis Genus:  Borago

These fast-growing plants with succulent, bristly stems are old-fashioned favorites of the border or herb garden. They self sow to produce a succession throughout the season of new plants and blossoms. The beautiful flowers are edible and are particularly bequiling on salad or floating in summer drinks. 

Noteworthy Characteristics: 

Starry, bright blue flowers with pointed black stigmas ringed in white, open from iridescent pendulous buds.

Care: 

Grow in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.

Propagation: 

Direct sow in situ in spring or fall. Self-sows.

Problems: 

Powdery mildew.
