Gardeners’ Give & Take Meets Again

houseplant-3On a frigid snowy Saturday morning, the gathering of gardeners’ at Urban Roots talked over a number of interesting subjects.  We reviewed some experiences and observations from the last growing season, considered some questions of current indoor gardening projects, and looked ahead to plans and approaches to the seasons ahead.  This week, our agenda took up

  • progress report on experiences with fungal infestations in the garden
  • how to successfully force amaryllis bulbs
  • creating conditions indoors for wintering over a variety of plants and for starting seeds: temperature, moisture and light
  • some useful annuals for filing spaces in the shade garden; coleus!
  • suggestions for self-seeding annuals and perennials to naturalize in the garden
  • fighting against/coping with goutweed (aka bishop’s weed, aegopodium) and other problem plants

We look forward to continuing this stimulating gardeners’ conversation on Saturdays at 10 am, February 5th and 19th, and March 5th and 19th.  You are welcome to join us for this low-key round table, Gardeners’ Give & Take.
