How To Choose The Perfect Houseplant

Their varying shades and texture of foliage can be colorful, their flowers fragrant, and in a split second they can decorate a room to perfection; this miracle of nature is called houseplants.

To successfully grow plants indoors the vegetation’s native habitat conditions have to be precisely recreated. If that is impossible you will have to pick greenery that already is showing tolerance and adaptability to unstable light and the temperature settings which can occur indoors.
In an average home or office, some habitat conditions can be easily manipulated, although a clever gardener will select plants that are already used to existing environmental conditions. Not manipulating the plants eliminates a lot of frustration and improves the chances for the houseplants to survive.

The benefits of indoor gardening are numerous, at least if you choose the right plants and care for them appropriately. That means you have to familiarize yourself with the plant’s original ecosystem and growing requirements such as light, temperature, humidity, what kind of soil it favors, and its watering preferences.

Even though plants are a quick fix to spruce up any home decor, remember they need to be looked after and if you have little time to spare, or are a beginner botanist, look for low maintenance specimens such as a spider plant, Philodendron, ivy, snake plant, or a Dracaena. If watering your plants regularly may be a problem, because you travel a lot or are forgetful, and you do not want spend money on self-watering pots, you may want to decide on water-retaining plants, such as a cactus or a succulent, also called a fat plant. These include Aloe Vera, Jade Plants, Echeveria, Agave, and Kalanchoe.

Whether you are a casual cultivator or an agriculture guru, caring for houseplants can be a great, relaxing hobby, and will also help the enthusiastic gardener survive the winter months when outdoor yard activities are rather restricted.
