Air Out Your Mattress

You spend a third of your life sleeping so it makes sense to circulate the air in your bedroom as it will prevent any kind of health problems that you might face due to air pollutants. Viruses, dust mites, bacteria, mold and mildew build up when bedroom doors and windows are not opened to let fresh air in. Even the carpeting in your bedroom contains dust mites, allergens and bacteria. Refreshing your room by opening the doors and window is good for your health. Open all your windows and doors to all fresh air to enter your room. Place a window dust- guard on the window to stop allergens and dust from entering the room.
Make your bed some time after you get up. This will give the bedding chance to get some air. Placing an air purifier in the bedroom will make the air fresh in the bedroom.
Choose a mattress made with natural fibres like cotton if you are sensitive to latex or latex made products.
Placing houseplants in the bedroom will make the air fresh in the bedroom. Houseplants have the ability to move the air even when the circulation of the air in the room is poor.
A mattress that is regularly aired out will have fewer allergens and germs than one that is never aired out. Airing out your mattress can be done indoors as well as outdoors. In fact regularly airing out your mattress outdoors can get rid of bed bugs. Here are steps to follow when airing out a mattress.
Once a week pull off all bed linen and allow the mattress to get some fresh air. Do this on a weekly basis for at least one hour. Remove all clothing from the mattress so that it can get completely aired. Open all the windows and allow the sun to shine on the mattress and let it become warm.
This is the time to wash all your bed linen. Wash your bed sheets and even all the pillow covers. You should wash your bed sheets on a weekly basis and blankets and heavy bedding every quarter. Wash the mattress cover on a monthly basis based on how dirty it appears. Vacuum the mattress regularly if there are dust allergens on the mattress, doing this on a weekly or monthly basis will get rid of dust allergens. Air out your mattress out doors once or twice in a year; choose a sunny day to air out your mattress.
Leave the mattress to air out for at least 3-4 hours, actually six hours is preferable. Don’t allow the mattress to lie outside in the evening air or else it will catch evening dampness. If you are airing out in winters, bring the mattress as soon as the sun sets or the mattress will catch the dampness and mould will grow in the mattress.
If you are facing difficulty in moving the mattress then air it on a dry sunny day by keeping all the windows open. Airing your bedroom and bed linen regularly will ensure that you get fresh air in your lungs and are free from any dust allergies.
