Mowing Heights for Lawns

Mowing Height for Lawn Grasses in Georgia

Mow your lawn when the actual grass height exceeds the recommended height by one-third.

For example, mow fescue when it grows to 4 inches tall.

The easiest way to measure grass height is with a wooden ruler. In an out-of-the-way spot, experiment with the height settings on your mower and make a note of which setting gives you the height you want.

Mow 0.5 to 1.0 inch higher in the hottest part of summer to shade the soil, keeping it cooler for grass roots.
