Designing An Informal Herb Garden

As the very name suggests that the informal herb garden is informal. By informal we mean no strict rules to follow. You can grow herbs in whatever style and match, you wish. But however, you have to keep in mind few things before designing an informal herb garden. As far as herbs are concerned you need to look out for certain things like height, growing compatibility between the herbs chosen and last but not the least there intrusiveness.

Some planning and preparation still needed for designing an informal herb garden. Before designing a garden you need to make certain that the place you have chosen is well drained and has a full exposure to sunlight. Most of the herbs grow well in sunlight, though there are herbs which grow in shady areas as well.

The next step is to choose herbs of your choice. You need to have a good knowledge about the herbs which you have chosen for your garden. Often the herbs you choose don't grow in your soil or they do not show the normal properties as describes in different books or resources. It is therefore handling the informal garden becomes more complex and complicated than a well organized herb garden. Managing an informal or formal garden are of equal importance, the difference is just lie in the appearance of the two.

Selection of herbs is all make the difference. If you are good at plantation, you will definitely choose the plants by keeping in view all the aspects regarding that plant. Some herbs are annuals and others are perennials. What you need to do after selecting the herbs is to spread them in the garden without any set pattern. Planting herbs in this ways will definitely seems odd but once they begin to grow, you will definitely appreciate the glory of this amalgamation.

In an informal garden no line or sequence is given to the herbs. They are grown in a mix up order and this massive amount of appetizing aromatic herbs, mixing with each other forms an attractive color contrast and give a magnificent view of the garden. Though, it is sometimes hard to manage the informal garden than an organized herb garden, as you have to control the growth of different herbs to provide enough room for the growth of other herbs.

The utility and growth of informal garden is largely depends on you and your knowledge about the plants. Plants requires special care and special care involves many things like watering them at right time, fertilizing the soil, trimming of unwanted or dead leaves etc. All in all a proper planning is required to make your garden a success.
