Growing A Great Garden

Whether you are trying to grow a vegetable garden or flower garden, many times choosing the location and how you decorate around your plants with will make it a more beautiful and calming place to visit or work.

Many times, growing a garden in an urban area can be challenging. The limited space, a water supply, or inadequate sunlight are just a few of the obstacles between you and a great garden. Once you decide to try your hand at urban gardening, developing a plan from start to finish will help you stay organized and ultimately have a successful garden.

If you are planting a flower garden, you might want to visit a botanical garden in your area, or make trips to travel to some of the nation's best. Most states have botanical gardens, but the United States Botanic Garden is worth the trip to Washington, DC. This garden is full of history and is the oldest botanical garden in North America. Just walking through the beautiful landscaped grounds will give you some ideas for your own garden. The year-round exhibits make this a perfect park to visit on any occasion, but before you decide to duplicate these exotic plants in your garden, make sure you know what grows best in your area before planting.

The same is true for vegetable gardens. Know what to plant, and what time of the year to plant them. Different vegetables require different growing seasons. But there is no reason you can't plan a vegetable garden that will yield a bountiful return on your hard work, and produce some fresh food on your table.

Perhaps your space is extremely limited for a garden. You may have neighbors who will help you plan and develop a community garden. Everyone involved would be responsible for planting a certain space in the garden, and everyone would share and enjoy what the garden yields. A community garden is a great way to meet your neighbors and develop friendships.

You may have only a rooftop space for your garden. You will want to plan this type of garden carefully. Make sure you have the water supply nearby that it will require. Rooftop gardens can be beautiful and enjoyable with a little planning and preparation.

Once you have your garden planted, don't forget the aesthetic feeling you want to accomplish when entering your garden. Landscaping the area around your plants creates a professional look. Try placing a few pieces of garden furniture or patio furniture throughout the area, or closeby your work area. Garden benches and park benches are excellent ways to enhance any garden and create an inviting atmosphere.

Whichever kind of garden you choose, eco-friendly gardening is a great way for your garden to give back to the soil, trees and other plants located nearby. Gardening can be a serene way to spend your extra time, and it can be therapeutic. Landscaping around your garden will be ecologically significant to your surroundings, but will also be educational. Involve your children or neighborhood children. Gardening is a life-long love and a great hobby in which to indulge yourself.
