How To Make Gardening Fun And Easy

Gardening is more than decorating. It's more than just a simple activity for a green-thumbed hobbyist. It can be relaxing and a great way to tackle stress in your life. It can teach you about the wonders of nature. The effects are huge, especially if you're skilled at it.

Plant slug-proof perennials. A particularly vulnerable plant can be killed by snails and slugs overnight. These pests are particularly fond of young perennials and those varieties with leaves that are tender, smooth, and thin. Some perennials, however, leave a bad taste in slugs' mouths or are difficult to chew through because their leaves aren't tender. Achillea, euphorbia, helleborus, heuchera and campanula are good choices that slugs don't like.

There are home solutions available to combat the powdery mildew you may find on your plants. Mix a little liquid soap and baking soda in water. Spray this mixture on your plants weekly until the mildew is gone. This mixture will not hurt your plants and it will eliminate the mildew slowly but efficiently.

Your vegetable garden should get at least six hours of sun daily. Most vegetables need this amount of sunlight to grow the right way at a faster pace. This is the same for many varieties of flowers.

For showy flowers throughout the spring and summer, plant plenty of bulbs. A hardy perennial addition to your garden, bulbs will continue to delight every year. Different varieties of bulbs flower at varied times and if you make the right choices you can have blossoms from early spring through late summer.

During fall, you should plant cold weather vegetables. A hollowed out pumpkin can become a festive container for kale and lettuce. Slice a hole around the stem, and pull the pumpkin top out. Then remove the guts and use Wilt-Pruf to cover the insides and prevent rot. Finished? Now you're all set for planting!

To help young plants, try pouring boiling water on top of nearby weeds. A boiling pot of water is one the best and safest herbicides you can find. Soak weeds with freshly boiled water, just being mindful to not afflict damage on plants you want to keep. Boiling water is not good for the weed roots and will stunt further growth.

Avoid using broad-spectrum pesticides in your garden. These pesticides will kill every type of pest in your garden, including beneficial bugs that eat garden pests. These helpful bugs are usually more sensitive to the chemicals than the pests, so if you find yourself in a situation where the good bugs are dying out, you can expect the pest problem to grow. You will need even more pesticides to deal with the problem, and it will never really go away.

The information you've been given in this article should have done a great deal to ease any apprehension that you have about starting your own organic garden. If you make proper use of the advice you have learned, you will soon be able to reap a bountiful harvest from your organic garden.
