How To Choose Flowers For A Birthday Bouquet

If you want to make some feel special on their birthday, say it with flowers. Whether you pick the flowers yourself or not, you can help to make their birthday bouquet more special by decorating it yourself, or by adding a personalised card or note with some loving thoughts included.

You may not know that just as every month of the year has its own gemstone and star sign, it also has its own flower. Pick the flowers that represent the month of the birthday boy or girl and their birthday bouquet will be that bit more meaningful.

The year begins with the Carnation, which is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world. It has a long tradition and is now representative of happiness and fondness. February follows with its flower the Violet, whose pretty flowers denote modesty and love.

Spring is synonymous with Daisies and Daffodils and these are the two flowers that represent April and March respectively. The sunny yellow of the Daffodil represents joy and warmth while the Daisy has over 1000 species for you to choose from.

May brings with it the Lily and its most popular variant the Lily of the Valley. It scent and white petals represent purity and humility, while June is the month of the eternally romantic rose.

As the summer temperatures rise, July becomes the month of the Larkspur, which is often confused with the Delphinium. Larkspur comes in a range of colours from pink to purple, blue to white, while the flower of August is the Gladiolus.

The autumn month of September is represented by the Aster, which is the symbol of good luck, and in China is symbolic of fidelity. October has the flower Calendula, or the Marigold as it is more commonly known, with its vivid golden petals.

Towards the end of the year we have the beautifully colourful Chrysanthemum in November, a flower that denotes a long life and good health. And the flower of Christmas time is traditionally the Narcissus flower, which is a symbol of both tremendous beauty and virtuous youth.
