Hanging Plants: Picking and Displaying

Hanging plants are a great way to decorate any home"be it a spacious house or a small dorm room. Adding hanging plants adds another dimension to your greenery (a variety of small, tall, low, and high contributes to a great look). Hanging plants are most often placed in corners: a perfect place because it adds brightness to a usually dull and dark area. Another benefit is that hanging plants in corners make them unobtrusive"they don’t take up any needed space. It is important to hang your plant correctly so that it does not someday crash to the floor. You will want to find a strong hook that can be adhered in some way to a ceiling beam if you are planning to hang a heavier, denser plant. For lighter, smaller plants, plastic and wooden hooks are usually fine, and you can often just screw them in where you want. As you decide on which hanging plants to use, think about colors of the flowers, shapes of the leaves, the designs of the containers, and how the plant will grow. There are about as many artificial hanging plants as real ones, so do not feel limited in choice if you decide to have the ease of a silk plant.

How to Take Care of Silk Plants

If you are planning on decorating with silk (or fake) plants, there are a couple of rules that you need to follow to ensure longevity. The majority of artificial plants, regardless of the material they are made will, will fade if constantly exposed to the sun. You do not have to completely avoid sunlight, but make sure the location of plants gets shifted periodically. Another way to prevent your plants from fading is to keep them from getting dusty. It is a good idea to make sure little children cannot reach your plants or flower arrangements, as they can be easily broken. If you do have an accident, see the manufacturer about repairs. A glue gun will take care of most problems. Wire is a great tool when fixing more extensive problems.

Decorating for Winter

Every season or climate has its own special elements that make it unique. One cautionary tip is to make sure any plants you decorate with are hardy enough to withstand the wild changes in temperature and precipitation that winter can bring. The most basic elements that exist in winter decor, or winter decorations, are pine trees, firs, branches of trees, or very unique flowers that thrive on a winter environment. Inevitably your winter decorations will involve Christmas colors and elements, including wreaths and garlands. You can use many of these items, with small changes or embellishments, throughout the winter season.

Cleaning is Just as Essential

The whole point of interior decorating is to make our houses look beautiful and feel comfortable to live in. Now as we all know, life can have a funny way of constantly getting in the way of that goal. When we talk about beautifying our houses, we often think about changing our dcor. However, finding ways to keep our house cleaner is just as critical to having an improved home. One simple way to efficiently keep your house clean is to put a list of chores together that includes tasks needing to be done a few times a year. Then, rather than having to dedicate a whole day or week to these chores, take twenty or thirty minutes a couple days each month and take care of them. Second, get the family involved: having a neat home is everyone’s responsibility, not just yours, and giving out specific assignments lets everyone finish faster. Finally, when you organize a container or closet, use labels: that way, you never have to waste time wondering where something has been or should be put.
