About Orchid Care And Supplies

Orchids are special flowers, they do not cooperate with every gardener and home owner, some can have flowers on their orchids all year round, with rich and healthy orchids that are on display all the time, and some others have their orchids bloom for a short while and then slowly deteriorate. Some orchid flowers come from tropical climates, warm countries sand humid areas but they grow in any climate and in any condition.

The most important thing that the person should be familiar with are the three types of species that are generally being grown. Each of these have different needs so the person needs to understand how these are able to bloom and survive given the environment.

The first type of orchid is called the Epiphytes. The individual should place this plant on a high shelf or stand so that it can live and grow near to its natural habitat since this species comes from trees.

The second type of orchid is called the Lithophytes. These species prefer to be placed near the base of trees. It will also be a good idea to add some moss to help it grow.

The third type of orchid is called the terrestrial orchids. Among the three, these will grow just like other kinds of plants because it has to be planted into the ground.

Those who want to grow either lithophytes or terrestrials will need orchid pots. This will prevent water from retaining because these species will drown where there is too much around. It will also be a good idea to get the right soil mixture and use some fertilizers.

Orchids are tropical plants. This means the warmth in the day has to be balanced with cool temperatures in the evening. The individual can create a small greenhouse so these can grow in a controlled environment.

Ideally, this should be from 55 to 65 degrees keeping the soil of the lithophytes and the terrestrial orchids moist.

The last tip to remember when taking care of orchids is that these should be pruned regularly. Dead parts must be removed to give shape to the plant. It is preferable to use a pair of sharp shears and cut it back to an inch so that something new will grow in the next blooming season.

Orchids like pets need tender and loving care to make these grow. Those who want to try this hobby should have time to check on these plants every so often. There are books and other sources of information available that will serve as a guide to make the flowers bloom.
