Perennials are In

P1050845Urban Roots’ first substantial shipment of perennials has just arrived, and our excitement can barely be contained.  We have perennials for sun and for shade, for spring bloom, summer bloom and fall bloom, for growing high and growing low.  We have a nice selection of native plants, as well as many choice exotics.

Some standouts:

-heuchera (coral bells) in half a dozen different varieties, with colors ranging from gold to green to peach to purple.

-“Volcano” phlox in 3 colors, as well as the beautiful white classic phlox “David”

-monarda (bee balm), in 3 varieties

-salvia “Caradonna”, our favorite of all the perennial salvias, with dark erect stems and vibrant blue blooms

-crocosmia “Lucifer”, always a great performer on Garden Walk weekend, with tall arching stems of bright red blossoms

-bamboo, including a clumping variety noted for its good behavior – perfect for limited-space city gardens

-bleeding hearts, for a reliable early bloom in the deepest shade

-astilbe, in several colors and sizes

-aruncus (goatsbeard), a beautiful native with big ghostly white plumes in June

-heliopsis and helenium, two bright sun performers for summer

-epimedium (barrenwort), in two varieties that withstand the difficult dry shady parts of the garden

And many more!
