Rodent Pest Control

In order to choose the proper rodent pest control, one must first identify the type of pest that is a nuisance. There are several types of rodents that infest homes around the United States, however the largest problem is with rats and mice. There are other rodents such as gophers, moles, and even armadillos.

When choosing a rodent pest control there are important factors that one must take into consideration before deciding on how to remove or eradicate the problem rodents. You must also think about any pets or children that are in or around your home when determining a method for eradication, as their safety is very important as well.

Identifying which rodent is a problem is of great importance when trying to choose the proper rodent pest control. A couple things that will help you tell the difference between a rat and a mouse are the size differences and the tail differences.

The tail of a rat looks more like a leather whip, whereas the tail of a mouse looks softer and more delicate. Obviously rats tend to be larger than mice; however this is not always the case. The best way to figure out what type of rodent is a problem, consider purchasing a live trap, this way you are sure to get a good look at it, as rodents are hard to see when on the move.

When dealing with moles, gophers, and armadillos it might come down to simply out smarting the rodent, as they tend to be quite smart. Moles and gophers can be a bit tricky, but one of the non-poisonous methods is flushing them out.

In order to flush a mole or gopher out you first have to locate the active tunnels, then using a garden hose let the water run for fifteen to thirty minutes. It is easier to get rid of armadillos, simple disturb the area around the nest and feel safe. The other rodent pest control option is to uses live traps or bait stations.

Live traps are a type of catch and release trap used for all different types of rodents, including rats and mice. These methods consist of either a glue strip with a highly bonding adhesive which the rodent sticks to, or a cage which you use a nontoxic bait, and it traps the rodent until proper removal.

The bait stations are a great because they are available in so many shapes and sizes. Simply place the bait (poisonous or non poisonous) and let the trap inside either catch or kill the rodent, depending on the bait station you choose.

All in all there are several types of rodent pest control to choose from to rid your home of unwanted guests. Make sure that you identify the rodent that is a problem, which will help you to choose the proper method of control.

There are some other factors to consider such as do you have pets that would be able to get into the bait stations that are around your home or yard. Factoring in children is also an important as well.
