Starter Organic Garden Supplies

There are many things to consider when getting started in organic gardening. One of the first things to think about is what kind of organic gardening supplies you will need. The supplies you choose will depend on a couple of different factors, including what you are going to grow, and whether you are growing inside or outside.

The Basics

The best place to start when you're looking for organic garden supplies is at your local hardware store or home center. You may also be lucky enough to have a farm supply store in your area. They will probably have more options as far as organic garden supplies are concerned. What you're looking for is products that have not been treated with any kind of chemicals, such as pesticides and fertilizers. There are organic seeds, topsoils, composts, and other gardening supplies available, but you may have to look for them. Fortunately, even though they may be harder to find, organic garden supplies may be cheaper since they haven't been treated with any chemicals.

You'll need to also consider where your gardening will be taking place. If you are growing indoors, you'll need to buy appropriately sized pots for your plants. Remember to purchase the pots with the full grown size of the plants in mind. Make sure you also make provisions for moving your plants in and out of the sun.

Organic garden supplies will be somewhat different for outdoor gardening. Obviously, you won't need the pots since you will be planting in the ground. The main concern with outdoor organic gardening is trying to keep pests away without using chemical pesticides. Controlling pests can be quite easy if you allow yourself to use these chemicals, but organic gardening does not allow for this. Fortunately, there are household items you can use to keep damaging critters away from your plants. Brightly colored and reflective items can be used to repel birds from eating your seeds. You can also keep rodents away by putting something on your plants that makes them taste unpleasant.

The most important thing when it comes to organic garden supplies is to make sure your plants or vegetables never come into contact with anything that has been or will be treated with any type of chemicals. This may sound difficult, but with a little bit of effort, anyone can pull it off. There are numerous resources available online, or you can start by speaking with someone at your local garden center.
