Artificial Rocks

Why put artificial rocks in your yard? Well, for one thing, it's not always so easy to find large rocks for gardens, outdoor perimeters, and ponds. If you do happen to find them, how do you get them to your yard? Real rocks of a respectable size are incredibly heavy. Many people have torn muscles, developed hernias, and caused spinal damage by hauling real rocks back and forth. Using fake rocks is the smarter way to handle this problem.

The best thing about fake rocks is, of course, that no one knows they're fake. Today, you can find fake rocks that are so convincing that you'd never know they're hollow in the middle and made from polyester. Good quality artificial rocks undergo a complex process to end up in their final state. This starts with first preparing the polyester mixture to ensure their durability, light weight, and realistic final appearance.

The Artificial Rock Process

To the inside surfaces of the polyester-molded rocks, fiberglass is then added. Fiberglass gives extra strength to artificial rocks and prevents them from giving in to pressure. Once molded, the artificial rocks are then visually prepared to look as realistic as possible. This doesn't mean they are painted, however. Painting creates a superficial effect that immediately announces to the viewer, "Fake!" Rather, the colors are imprinted or embedded into the rock. This is usually done either with special machinery, or with chemical processes that create this effect.

Once finished, the artificial rocks are ready to be moved into your yard or garden. Some rocks are made especially for water, which makes them especially useful for water gardens. Quality artificial rocks can take years of abuse, taking beatings under waterfalls, withstanding hot, merciless Arizona suns, and chilling out in snow and ice without cracking or disintegrating.
